Prof. Dr. Veronika Somoza (VS, née Faist) is chair of the Department, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, and Associate Editor of the Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry. VS holds a MSc in Human Nutrition from the University of Giessen / D, a PhD (with distinction) from the University of Vienna / A, a venia legendi for Human Nutrition and Food Science (Habilitation program) from the University of Kiel / D, and gained professional experience as vice chair of the German Research Centre for Food Chemistry, a Federal Leibniz Institute, in Freising / D (5 yrs), as Associate Professor at the Department of Food Science (tenured) at the University of Wisconsin / Madison, U.S.A., (2 yrs), and as Full Professor (tenured) at the University of Vienna / A (7 yrs). VS holds more than 150 original publications and various patents, and was awarded the Hans-Adolf Krebs Prize by the German Nutrition Society in 2004 and the FEMA Excellence in Flavor Science Award 2016.
